DULCIE TAYLOR
Biography
DULCIE TAYLOR
Dulcie Taylor tells it like it is…from passionate love to deep resentment, she is a woman with a clear message and a unique style. Her intimate, yet “take no prisoners” style is a refreshing and rare find in the singer/songwriter genre. Dulcie is a poet. Each word is carefully chosen so that the harmonies deliver an authentic inflection. It’s honest music that resonates with all of us playing the game of life.

Dulcie Taylor learned a hard music lesson at an early age — don’t leave your ukelele unattended in a porch chair at the beach. — Some clueless teenager will carelessly sit on it and smash it to bits. That tough moment for ten-year-old Dulcie turned out to be a blessing – her Mother bought a guitar for her that Christmas to replace the broken ukulele and so began Taylor’s lifelong love of playing, singing and songwriting. Her musical journey has led her to share the stage with a long and impressive list of artists including Jerry Lee Lewis, John Gorka, Bonnie Raitt, The Doobie Brothers, Dave Mason, Livingston Taylor, Raul Malo, Asleep At The Wheel, and Kathy Mattea.
Taylor launched her recording career in 2000 with the self-released, Other Side of the Bed. Immediately, her work was praised by her peers and Other Side of the Bed earned Dulcie a Wammie (Washington Area Music Award). Her second release, Diamond & Glass (2002 Black Iris/MesaBluemoon Recordings) received substantial national airplay and charted at Album Network‘s non-commercial AAA format. Critics embraced Taylor with numerous outstanding reviews including “It shines exactly like its title.” – Music Row; “Dulcie Taylor is a gifted writer. She also has a compelling voice which she employs with nuance and emotion.” – Dirty Linen; “Mesmerizing” – Barnes & Noble; and “Taylor is a poet, a romantic.” – The Washington Post. Like Other Side of the Bed, Diamond & Glass won a coveted Wammie Award.
“When writing reviews, I usually go through a pretty set routine as I write about various people and their work. However, every now and then something happens as I research, watch and most importantly listen as I write about their work. So it goes with this singer/songwriter. It has been a long time since I have heard words and music coming out of someone like I have heard here. She is a poet, storyteller, and a gifted musician, as she seems to have fused together a contemporary folk mix along with an Appalachian sound with her dulcimer at her side. How her notoriety has slipped by me I honestly cannot explain. I guess I don’t get out much. Her accomplishments are many including being listed by Soundstage as “Best Recordings of the Year.” Her last CD, released in 2012, climbed to number one to become Amazon’s “Top-Rated Americana Album.” Her songwriting, as beautiful as it is, also won her “First Place Best Songwriter” in 2013 from the New Times Music Awards. Oh yes, she has won a WAMMIE (Washington, DC Area Music Award) as “Best Contemporary Folk Recording” to boot. Her name is Dulcie Taylor and her new album will certainly light up the airwaves. The new CD, Only Worn One Time will be released on July 8, 2014. This is one singer/songwriter that has something very special inside her.”
